Your business card will often be your first and only chance to impress new contacts. Whether you are handing it out to potential clients, vendors, or fellow business owners, it’s important that your card accurately represents your image and that of your company.

Below are four tips to make the best impression possible.

1) Select a unique card. There are many options available to set you apart from other businesses such as leaf shapes, rounded corners, spot uv or plastic cards.

2) Buy the heaviest stock you can afford. A quality card equals a quality company!

3) Hire a graphic designer to design a custom logo. Besides using the logo on your business card, you’ll also be able to use it for your brochures, website, promotional items, etc. The custom logo will assure you that you’re not using the same design as many other companies who purchase stock artwork online.

4) Use the back of your cards. Otherwise, it’s wasted space. If you don’t use the back to list your website and other social media sites, be sure to include a quote, a photo or print more information about your company. Give people a reason to keep the card by printing a calendar or other relevant information. And, make sure to have a matte finish on the back so you or your potential client can write on it, if necessary.

You don’t cut corners when it comes to providing your company’s product or service. For the same reason, go with the best quality business cards.

You’ll notice a real difference in the way you feel about your company and yourself when you have a card that makes you beam.

John Beal launched a postcard campaign using these six steps and as a result, he gained 25 new clients with every mailing and increased sales dramatically.

The things John did right…

#1 – John used an oversized postcard.

Oversized postcards are unconventional, attention grabbing and a cost effective way to deliver your message. Figures from the latest edition of the Direct Marketing Association Statistical Fact Book confirm that oversized postcards are more effective at catching consumers’ attention than other mail formats.

#2 – He had a consistent message.

The message on the front (and back) of the postcard is basically the same with the only change being the photo on the front. Therefore, having a consistent message his audience is likely to remember.

#3 – The postcards had a simple design.

As you can see above, Point Graphics created simple yet eye-catching designs. John wanted a postcard that people would keep and possibly post. These postcards were cute, clean and they worked.

#4 – John had a targeted mailing list.

John had compiled a mailing list of his target market: schools that he knew could use his service.

#5 – John outsourced the mailing.

Outsourcing the mailing to Point Graphics saves time and money. Because of industrial printing capabilities, your materials can be printed much more inexpensively than you can do so yourself, and in a much more timely manner. Also, bulk postage deals may be available.

#6 – John sent the postcards on a regular basis to the same mailing list.

Repetition is an extremely important part of advertising because, it is through repetition that you establish your credibility, establish brand familiarity, and become the first thought when a need for your type of product or service arises.

Call or email us today to discuss your plan of attack!

I have been in business for 12 years and after Point Graphics recreated my logo and flyers, the effect on my business has been incredible. My staff and I were uplifted to a new level. The transformation was amazing! -Ash Hassan, General Manager Classic Limousine

Below are three reasons to update your logo…

1. Logo is visually outdated In some cases, the logo was great when it was designed, but now looks outdated. A redesign keeps the brand from feeling stale or out of touch. 2. Market changes require different identification Another noticeable trend is formerly brick-and-mortar institutions developing an online presence, or wishing to appear as though they have.

3. Simplifying for better recognition So, how’s your logo doing? Does it reflect your current customer focus, or is it stuck representing what your company used to do? Does it look just like every other logo in your industry, or is it unique? And most importantly, when someone sees your logo, do they remember who you are?

If you decide to redesign your logo, make sure you do it professionally. These days, a logo isn’t just for stationery and business cards. It will be on your website, your physical location (if you have one), maybe your employee uniforms or delivery trucks, and so on. It’s important to get it right.

Have you ever received a compliment on your business card? Do you feel proud to hand them out?

If you answered no to either of these questions, it may be time for you to update your business card.

Why? Because a business card is one of the most important and cost-effective marketing tools. And unfortunately, it can be a missed opportunity to make a great impression. You want the impression to be classy, professional, and informative. When someone looks at your card, they should immediately understand what you do. A powerful and well-designed business card can effectively promote your business.

Below is a list of common blunders people make when it comes to their business cards. Avoid these and you will be on your way to having a card that is effective and appealing.

Blunder #1: A Poor Quality Card
Don’t skimp when it comes to your business card. You want to have quality paper stock, print that doesn’t bleed from water spills, and the card should feel substantial and pleasing to the touch. A poor quality card implies a poor quality business.

Blunder #2: Not Providing a Unique Selling Point
Your card should state at least one very powerful reason a customer should do business with you.

Blunder #3: Print that is too Small
You may be able to fit more information onto the card with a small font, but what good is it if people can’t read it? Since most of the population over 35 needs reading glasses, keep your font size larger than 8 point.

Blunder #4: A Cluttered Card
When someone looks at your business card, can they tell immediately what your business does? If not, you’re not likely to get as many calls or referrals.

Too much print looks busy and unprofessional. Keep it simple. Contact information is important as you want to be easy to reach. The following information is essential.

Company name and logo
your name
title
e-mail address
office and/or cell number
website
non essential but also important
tagline
facebook and other social media info
photo
fax
QR code

Blunder #5: Not Using the Back of the Card
The back of your card can be used to add a wealth of information. Add a calendar, tips, client list, etc.

Blunder #6: Not Using Color
Spruce up your business cards with color. Color can make a huge difference. Colors have meanings. Find out what they are and how using them can help your business.

Blunder #7: Cards Go Unused
Why order cards if they’re just sitting there collecting dust? Carry them with you and distribute them often, when appropriate. You can give more than one and ask that they pass them along to others who made need your services. You never know when you may get a referral.

Leave someone with a card that looks great, feels great and clearly defines what your business does.

What do you gain by handing out your card? Business.
